Banquet Date/Time

Our end of the season awards banquet/dinner/recognition get together will be November 1st at 6 PM at the High School commons.

I'm not sure if it's going to be much of a "banquet" but that was the slot that was open at the school and we hope everyone can make it. A few awards will be given out, seniors recognized, a few things highlighted from the season, potentially a short slide show, and some kind of food and or desert served. If anyone has thoughts or ideas for the food portion they can contact me, I'm flexible about that. The entire evening should easily be done in an hour or so.

District Results/Summary

A memorable season ended for the Central Decatur cross country teams Thursday on a windy and cold day in Knoxville at Districts. 26 class 1A teams competed at the meet and the girls finished 12th and the boys 14th. Several season best races and quality races were run individually while both squads were missing a few key runners (Alex Foltz) and (Chaundra Ridgway).

The girls and boys teams have been able to field a scoring team all season and were able to finish the season with a team score. The number of participants in cross country this year was exciting and the way our athletes supported each others efforts this year was nice to see.

The girls were led by Bailey Boswell in a district race that was loaded. Bailey's last three races have been very good and she became a more consistent racer as the season progressed. She ended her high school career as the 7th fastest girl in school history. Trista Waddell ran solid as the teams 2nd runner and has had a great season, but struggled with the conditions today. Jordan Hullinger was the girls 3rd runner and ran her best race of the season and her fastest time of the year on a less than ideal day. Monica Irving aggravated a hamstring injury during the race on the hilly course and struggled but bravely finished the race to help the girls finish with a team score. Also, finishing her 4th race of the year was Monica Janssen who finished as the girls 5th runner to allow the girls to have a team score.

4k Results
34th Bailey Boswell 18:08
75th Trista Waddell 21:14
81st Jordan Hullinger 21:41 (Season best time)
85th Monica Irving 22:24
96th Monica Janssen 26:01

The boys were led by Sophomore Matt Marvin who continues to demonstrate mental toughness in the way he runs. Matt was in physical distress with a mile to go and somehow managed to finish and continue to compete all the way to the finish line. Matt ends his season as the 11th fastest runner in school history. Jacob Hayworth made a great aggressive effort to go after some top competition today and you can't succeed if you don't try. He ran his second fastest time of the year and provided great leadership for the boys team this year and finished his career as the 15th fastest in school history. Jordan Miner was the 3rd boy across the line for the Cardinals and he ran a huge pr and his best race of the season on a difficult day. Bill Hutchinson was the Cardinals 4th, Wyatt Duerr 5th, and David Huppert 6th across the line for the cardinals and they all ran their fastest times of the season.

72nd Matt Marvin 20:34
73rd Jacob Hayworth 20:44
100th Jordan Miner 23:18 (Season best by a minute)
108th Bill Hutchinson 25:33
110th Wyatt Duerr 26:10 (2 minute pr)
113th David Huppert 27:11 (2 minute pr)

One of our Jr High girls wrote a paper about the season which I believe is a reflection of the positive experience that many of the kids had this season. Many of these young athletes surprised themselves with their success this year and were able to overcome obstacles and challenges that were overwhelming at times. Facing difficult and stressful challenges together is a great bonding experience and these kids definitely came together as a team this season!

Mt Ayr Results/Summary

On thursday the Central Decatur Cross Country teams competed in the last regular season meet prior to the state qualifying (district) meet next week which will be held in Knoxville. Only two days removed from a very successful POI meet the squads took a low key approach to the meet and rested a few kids who needed more time to recover. The weather conditions were windy with gusts up to 30 mph.

The HS Girls were again led by Bailey Boswell who ran two solid races in 3 days and came back after an amazing race at the POI championships to finish 12th and beat many of the same athletes again. Trista Waddell ran well and is becoming more consistent. Trista accidently ran into the JV chute and was counted as a JV runner. Monica Irving ran a much improved race over her POI race two days ago and Jordan Hullinger is consistently running solid performances for the girls team. Chandra Ridgway one of the cardinals top runners was held out to rest prior to the district race next week.

Bailey Boswell 18:44 12th
Trista Waddell 21:04 (3rd JV)
Monica Irving 22:05 30th

The HS boys were again led by Alex Foltz who was not physically at a 100 percent but ran a smart race getting what he wanted out of it to prepare for districts in a week. Jacob Hayworth ran a solid race but the short turn around time from the POI race affected him today. Jordan Miner ran his best race of the season and 2nd best time despite the wind. Bill Hutchinson had the most improved performance of the season for the guys running a PR despite windy conditions. Wyatt Duerr ran near his best time despite getting knocked down at the beginning of the race. David Huppert competed much better this week than two days ago. Matt Marvin all conference runner a week ago was held out to allow more time to recover for districts next week also.

As a unit the Jr High girls had the team race of the day ending their season on a high note. As a group it was the best effort all year. Keagan ran a good race tactically dealing with high winds and beat two conference runners that beat her two days ago. Reagan Booth made a significant improvement running her season best race and second best time while running a quality negative split race running her second mile 18 seconds faster than her first mile. Also finishing in the top 20 were Mary Lindsay who continues to improve and was the only other athlete to run negative splits today. Jentri Hullinger ran her season best race and time with a 2 minute PR to get a top 20 finish as well. Addie Franks was able to finish her season strong with a solid race following what was her season best race a week ago.
